A large articulated lorry has arrived with the first delivery of materials for the Leofric building.

These are the steel rafters which will support the roof.

The rafters are supported on these columns, six down each side of the building.

"Holding down" bolts have been installed around the edge of the slab. The columns will be secured by these bolts.

This is a heap of "purlins", which span between the rafters to support the roof panels.

These are the concrete panels which form the external walls.

A crane has arrived to lift the steel members into place.

A rafter is lifted into position.

Bolts are tightened up before lifting to the final position.

Finally the connections at each end are made.

By the end of the day most of the framework is up.

Now all the roof purlins have been installed. The next job will be to prepared the edges of the slab for the concrete panels.

The concrete panels forming the external walls are being erected at the rear of the building.

The foot of the concrete panels rests on a galvanised steel flashing, which is sealed to the concrete slab.
